The Council for Medical Schemes regulates Sasolmed Medical Scheme.Β The Council governs South Africa’s medical plan business for Medical Schemes (CMS), a regulating body set up under the Medical Schemes Act, No. 131 of 1998 (the Act). The CMS is responsible for a range of tasks related to the oversight of medical insurance plans, such as:
Furthermore, if a medical scheme is found to violate the law, the CMS has the authority to issue administrative fines and penalties.

You and your family can use any primary care physician (PCP) and any pharmacy you prefer for all your long-term care needs. However, you will be responsible for paying a standard contribution depending on your income and family size.Β Furthermore, on the comprehensive plan, long-term treatment medication will fall under the purview of a more extensive drug formulary.Β Compared to the Restricted Network Formulary, which is only valid for the Restricted Network Option, the Comprehensive Network Formulary provides more comprehensive benefits.
Note that the other benefits and limits will remain the same whether you select the Comprehensive Network Option or the Restricted Network Option.
Suppose you opt for the Restricted Network Option of Sasolmed. In that case, you must agree to use General Practitioners from a limited network of providers and the Medipost courier pharmacy as the designated service providers for your and your family’s chronic needs.Β It is imperative to nominate a preferred General Practitioner as the care coordinator. Furthermore, in exchange for this agreement, you will receive a discounted contribution, estimated to be 10% less than the Comprehensive Network Option.Β You must also agree to use medicine from a restricted medicine formulary, known as the Restricted Network Formulary, for your and your family’s chronic medication needs.Β However, if you use non-network GPs, a pharmacy other than Medipost, or medicine not listed on the Restricted Network Formulary, you may incur additional co-payments or claims shortfalls.Β The other benefits and limits will remain unchanged under the Restricted Network Option, like the Comprehensive Network Option. For further information, kindly refer to the Summary of Benefits for GP consultation and chronic medicine benefits for 2023.Β Suppose you or any family member has a chronic condition. In that case, it is advisable to take the following steps before choosing the Restricted Network Option:
Please remember that if you choose the Restricted Network Option and pay the lower contribution, you will be liable for additional co-payments if you do not use the Restricted Network GPs or the Medipost courier pharmacy for chronic consultations and medication.

Exceptional Support.
My mother has been a member of Sasolmed for the past 5 years. This year, she underwent major cardiac surgery and experienced subsequent complications, requiring re-admission. Throughout this challenging time, Sasolmed provided exceptional support through every phone call and email communication. Their responses were accurate and timely, demonstrating a high competence level. Each consultant I interacted with was remarkable in their friendliness, patience, and kindness, even after numerous inquiries. The level of care and support provided by Sasolmed was truly overwhelming. It is a privilege to be a patient under their care. The medical aid keeps me updated with every claim, and the member zone provides a convenient platform to follow up on claims and inquiries. I highly commend Sasolmed for their exceptional service. – Herbert Trujillo

Happy Member.
I have been a member of Sasolmed for a considerable time and have had several medical emergencies. Sasolmed has ensured that I receive the best possible care in each instance, and they have paid all related bills without hesitation.- Julia Calderon
Sasolmed is a medical aid scheme based in South Africa. Furthermore, it provides health insurance exclusively to Sasol employees and their dependents. Sasolmed offers two medical plans: a Comprehensive and Restricted Network Option.Β Each plan has unique features, benefits, and limits according to the memberβs needs. Furthermore, extensive coverage is given for in- and Out-of-Hospital procedures and treatments.Β However, while this medical aid is only dedicated to Sasol employees, there is no clear indication regarding the contributions paid on the two options. Furthermore, the two options might be limited in benefits, percentage cover, and overall annual limits.
Therefore, while Sasolmed is a well-established and reputable medical aid scheme that offers a wide range of plans and a large network of healthcare providers, it’s cost and waiting periods for certain benefits can be a disadvantage.
