Accident Plan
The MediPet Accident Plan is a basic, budget-friendly pet insurance option if you are looking for accident-only cover or have an older pet.
- Annual Max: Up to R25 000.
- Monthly Premium: R149 for a cat, R199 for a dog.
- Excess: 15%, with a minimum of R150.
- Waiting Period: None—accidents are covered immediately upon joining.

Terms and conditions :
- Waiting periods: None All treatment expenses must be incurred following the acceptance of your coverage by both parties. Coverage will commence from the date of acceptance by both parties.
- Excess: 15%, with a minimum of R150 per claim. The pet must be examined by a veterinarian within 48 hours of the occurrence of the accident.
- Car accident.
- Burn or electrocution.
- Fall from an elevated position.
- Near-drowning.
- The actions of another animal.
- A swallowed or embedded foreign object requiring surgical or endoscopic removal.
- Snake bite.
- An allergic reaction to an insect bite (other than tick or flea bites).
- Biliary (tick bite fever).
- Ingestion of chemical/poison.
- Acute traumatic ligament or tendon injury.
Aswell as:
- A fractured bone &/or tooth/teeth.
- A puncture wound.
- Lacerations, abrasions or wounds.
- A gastric torsion (gastric dilation volvulus).
- A soft tissue prolapse.
- Organ rupture.
- Heatstroke.
- Blunt trauma.
What is not covered?
- The cost of any treatment before the date of acceptance of cover.
- Claims related to an incident that does not fall in the list of accidents.
- Cost incurred if the pet was not seen by a vet within 48 hours of the time of the accident (MediPet may request a vet history).

MediPet Lite Plan
The MediPet Lite Plan is a limited, affordable pet insurance option in South Africa for accident, illness and emergency cover for all ages.
The MediPet Lite plan is ideal if you are looking for our the most affordable cover for both accidents and illness. It is a great option for older pets with the option of increasing cover with the Benefit Booster add-on if needed.

- Annual Max: Up to R40 000
- Monthly Premiums: Cats From R199 and Dogs From R309
- Number of Claims: submit up to 4 claims per policy year, with a maximum claimable amount of R13 760 per claim
- Excess: 25%, with a minimum of R300
- Waiting Period: 30 days (all accidents, as listed in the Accident plan, are covered immediately). The pet must be seen by a vet within 48 hours of the incident.
- Benefits not included in the Lite plan can be added, or existing benefits on the Lite plan can be upgraded.

- Benefits: Day-2-Day Benefit: R1 500 per claim, and up to R6 000 per year.
- Holistic Wellness: physiotherapy, homeopathy, hydrotherapy and more – R5 000 per year.
- Supplements: R2 000 per year.
- Behavioral Therapy: R4 000 for the lifetime of your pet.
- Hospital Treatment: 25%, minimum of R350.
- Day-2-Day: R300.
- Holistic Wellness and Supplements: 18%.
- All incidents, as detailed in the Accident plan, are covered right away without any waiting periods. 30-day no-claim period starting from the date of joining.
- There is a 6-month waiting period for treatments related to the knee and hip, elbow and shoulder, eye, respiratory system, and spinal issues; however, we will cover up to R5,000 for diagnostic tests during this time (Pets under 4 months at the time of enrollment may still qualify for partial or full coverage of these treatments).
- One of each of the following procedures is covered per policy year: cruciate ligament surgery, luxating patella surgery, hip surgery, elbow surgery, shoulder surgery, and surgery for foreign body ingestion.
- The expenses for any additional surgeries within the same year will be split at a rate of 50%.
Day-2-Day Benefit –R1 500 per claim, & up to R6 000 per year.
- Holistic Wellness – physiotherapy, homeopathy, hydrotherapy, acupuncture, rehabilitation, and more – up to R5,000 annually.
- Supplements – up to R2,000 each year.

- All dogs aged 8 to 9 years are required to provide a complete veterinary history upon joining Essential.
- All cats aged 9 years and older must also submit a complete veterinary history when enrolling in Essential.
- Dogs that are over 9 years old are eligible for Lite, LitePlus, or Accident plans, but not for Essential.

All accidents, as listed in the Accident plan, are covered immediately without waiting periods.

How to join MediPet Pet Insurance?
To join MediPet, you can follow these steps:- Visit the MediPet website at www.medipetsa.co.za or call their customer service team to discuss your options.
- Considering any pre-existing conditions, choose the plan that best suits your pet’s needs.
- Provide basic information about your pet, including its name, breed, age, and any pre-existing conditions.
- Select the payment plan that suits your budget and pay the monthly premium. You can pay via debit order.
- Review the terms and conditions of your selected plan and ensure you understand the cover and any limitations.
- Once your payment has been processed, your pet will be covered according to the terms of your selected plan. In addition, you will receive a policy document outlining the cover and benefits.

How to Claim for Medipet Insurance Benefits
MediPet’s 4 Easy claim and refund options
Option 1: Submit Your Claim Form Online
🐶 Visit MediPet’s claims page to submit your claim online: claims.medipet.co.za
🐶 Provide as much information as possible. (Your vet does not need to fill out the claim form.)
🐶 Upload clear and legible invoices, and any other supporting documents.
🐶 Click submit and check your email for your claim submission confirmation.
🐶 Claims are processed within 7–10 working days.
Option 2: Direct Vet Payment
- Complete all the steps in option 1 above.
- Don’t forget to select the “Please make payment of this claim refund directly to my vet” box on the online claim form.
- MediPet will require a detailed cost estimate.
- Send this to [email protected].
- MediPet may request a history from your vet or any other vet who may have treated your pet.
- This pre-approval process may take up to 48 hours (if required over a weekend, it will take longer) and will be granted in writing.
- Once approved, MediPet will log the claim, mark it as urgent, and the payment will be processed within 4 working days.
- The payment, less the excess, will be made directly to your vet, not you (the member).
- You will need to pay the vet for the applicable excess directly.
- After the procedure, you or your vet will need to submit the final invoice to
- MediPet will compare the final costs with the initial pre-approved payment and make any necessary adjustments.
- If adjustments are required, MediPet will either request a refund from your vet or the insurer will process an additional payment, if needed.
