Red Wine: Health Benefits & The Science Behind It
Red wine has long been credited with a surprising list of health benefits, from supporting heart health to improving longevity. Many of these claims stem from compounds called polyphenols (especially resveratrol) found in the skin of red grapes.
These natural antioxidants have been studied for their potential to protect blood vessels, lower inflammation, and even aid metabolic balance.
Yet the relationship between red wine and wellbeing isn’t as straightforward as a nightly glass being “good for you”. Much of the evidence is observational, and the benefits often appear linked to lifestyle patterns rather than alcohol itself.

Major heart-health guidance points to up to one drink a day for women and up to two for men as the historic “moderate” range, while also cautioning against starting to drink for health reasons.
